Pittsburgh Spice
Pittsburgh Spice is my final project for my 24-672 DIY Design and Fabrication course. This project was inspired by my love for cooking and celebration of my college years in Pittsburgh.

Target Customer Moodboard

The customer for this project is myself. During the semester, cooking served as my escape from the stress of school work and jobs. But, I realized that during my four years, I would always have to rummage through my spices to find what I was looking for. This project presented the opportunity to represent my time in Pittsburgh and solve my mess of a kitchen!
Design Inspiration Moodboard

This design inspiration for this project is Pittsburgh itself - Pittsburgh is known for its many bridges and its food scene. There are currently many spice racks available on the market, many of which revolve. But, I was particularly inspired to create a rustic, wooden spice rack rather than the often seen metal ones. I was also intrigued by the forward revolving axis spice racks rather than the z-axis revolving ones.

Prototype Cost

To cut down on prototype costs, I decided to laser cut everything out of simple wood sheets. There are several different types of sheets that would be used for the wheel, the side panels and the spice holders. Any hardware would be avoided in this initial prototype.
